Geoffrey de Havilland

Captain Sir Geoffrey de Havilland was born in London in 1882 and moved to Crux Easton with his father, who was the local vicar.

Geoffrey was a very early aviation pioneer and made his first flights close to Beacon Hill nearby in 1909 and 1910. He designed and built many aircraft during WWI and set up the famous company that developed a number of aircraft over the years including early jets – perhaps the most well-known being the Comet.

He died in 1965.
